Beyond Comparison

I love a quote from Sunday afternoon session of October General Conference 2014 from the first speaker who was M Russell. Ballard. His talk was on "Stay in the Boat and Hold On!" This post is based on that talk and I hope you will gain a few things to some things throughout this blog post.
He mentioned 2 occasions and mentioned President Young reminded us. One of the occasions that he mentioned was "On another occasion, President Young said that he also worried about people losing their way when they were being blessed when life was good: “It is in calm weather, when the old ship of Zion is sailing with a gentle breeze, [and] when all is quiet on deck, that some of the brethren want to go out in the whaling boats to have a swim, and some get drowned, others drifted away, and others again get back to the ship. Let us stick to the old ship and she will carry us [safely] into the harbor; you need not be concerned."

He asked us "Given the challenges we all face today, how do we stay on the Old Ship Zion?" He explained of how we can.

This is what he mentioned "Here is how. We need to experience a continuing conversion by increasing our faith in Jesus Christ and our faithfulness to His gospel throughout our lives not just once but regularly. Alma asked, “And now behold, I say unto you, my brethren [and sisters], if ye have experienced a change of heart, and if ye have felt to sing the song of redeeming love, I would ask, can ye feel so now?"

Someone may ask me how does it applies to us; Well it applies to us by remaining to stay strong in the Church, read scriptures, daily personal prayers, attending the Temple often, attending Church activities, fulfilling Church callings  and gaining and building a stronger testimony. It helps you to build your faith more into Jesus Christ and Heavenly Father.

Please remember of the quote that I have shared with you.

Past, Future and Present

This post is based on a April General Conference 2003 talk called "In Search of Treasure by Thomas S Monson." I love the image below.
I will share with you of the highlights that I loved throughout the talk.

"The promised reward was not a treasure of ivory, gold, or silver. Neither did it consist of acres of land or a portfolio of stocks and bonds. The Master spoke of riches within the grasp of all even joy unspeakable here and eternal happiness hereafter.

Today I have chosen to provide the three pieces of your treasure map to guide you to your eternal happiness. They are:

1. Learn from the past.
2. Prepare for the future.
3. Live in the present.

First, learn from the past. Each of us has a heritage whether from pioneer forebears, later converts, or others who helped to shape our lives. This heritage provides a foundation built of sacrifice and faith. Ours is the privilege and responsibility to build on such firm and stable footings.

Second, prepare for the future. We live in a changing world. Technology has altered nearly every aspect of our lives. We must cope with these advances even these cataclysmic changes in a world of which our forebears never dreamed.

Remember the promise of the Lord: “If ye are prepared ye shall not fear.” Fear is a deadly enemy of progress.

Third, live in the present. Sometimes we let our thoughts of tomorrow take up too much of today. Daydreaming of the past and longing for the future may provide comfort but will not take the place of living in the present. This is the day of our opportunity, and we must grasp it."

Matthew, Chapter 6
19, “Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:

20, “But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:

21, “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”

Listen to The Promptings

This post is based on a talk from L. Tom Perry of October General Conference last year. The talk is called "Finding Lasting Peace and Building Eternal Families."
I love a quote from General Conference, and if you can't see the Image that has the quote, it says "We must never let the noise of the world overpower and overwhelm that still, small voice. - L. Tom Perry."

I will share with you some of the things that I liked throughout this talk.

"For behold, again I say unto you that if ye will enter in by the way, and receive the Holy Ghost, it will show unto you all things what ye should do” (2 Nephi 32:5).

"We certainly have been warned of events that we will be facing in our day. Our challenge will be how we prepare for the events the Lord has said are surely still to come.

Many in our worried society understand that the disintegration of the family will bring only sorrow and hopelessness into a troubled world. As members of the Church, we have the responsibility to preserve and protect the family as the basic unit of society and eternity. The prophets have warned and forewarned about the inevitable and destructive consequence of a deterioration of family values.

As the world continues to watch us, let us be certain that our example will sustain and support the plan the Lord has designed for His children here in mortality. The greatest teaching of all must be done by righteous example. Our homes must be holy places in order to stand against the pressures of the world. Remember that the greatest of all the blessings of the Lord come through and are given to righteous families."
